De Zwarte Ruyter will present an installation made by Judith Vogt and Bonno van Doorn.
For the last month Vogt and Van Doorn have worked on the subject of the scientific mystery 'Dark Matter and Parallel Spaces'.
Both artists took this serious and rather impossible fascination as a starting point in which they individually try to explore the theme within their own works. As some might wonder what shape the universe really has, some others might probably see the universe as a circumstance we happened to be part of, something we try to shape.
The installation shows the process as a voyage, the addiction, the repetition, an overflew of ideas; something one might want to explore.
Our stand is in the Zuiveringshal. Be welcome!
Hope to see you there.
Kind regards,
De Zwarte Ruyter
City Lights by Charlie Chaplin @ De Zwarte Ruyter
With an introduction by Arnon Grunberg
Filmscreening: Friday 23 April 2010, 19:30

Accompanied by Yvo Verschoor on the piano
De Zwarte Ruyter is pleasured to announce a film screening of City Lights favored and introduced by Arnon Grunberg and accompanied with live piano music by Yvo Verschoor. Suggested donation at the door: €5,-
City Lights is a 1931 American silent romantic comedy film starring, written and directed by Charlie Chaplin. It also stars Virginia Cherrill and Harry Myers. Despite the fact that the production of silent films had dwindled with the rise of "talking" pictures, City Lights was immediately popular and is today remembered as one of the highest accomplishments of Chaplin's prolific career. Although classified as a comedy, City Lights has an ending widely regarded as one of the finest and most moving in cinema history.
Arnon Yasha Yves Grunberg was born in Amsterdam in 1971.He currently lives in New York. Grunberg was kicked out of high school at age seventeen. He started his own publishing company called Kasimir, specializing in non-Aryan German literature, at the age of nineteen, acted and wrote plays. When he was only twenty-three years old, his first novel Blue Mondays became a bestseller in Europe and won the Anton Wachter Prize. It has been translated in thirteen languages.

Human Billboards by Jacco Kranenburg @ De Zwarte Ruyter
Opening Saturday 10 April 2010, 20:00
Check Trendbeheer for building up pictures!
De Zwarte Ruyter is thrilled to announce a book launch and billboard presentation by Jacco Kranenburg.
On auction site eBay, there are regular auctions of people who offer themselves as advertising medium. For over two years, graphic designer Jacco Kranenburg purchased as many of these human billboards as possible to advertise his design studio 'Roomservice'.
These human billboards were asked to provide a series of photographs as proof of active advertising. Some of the most fascinating transactions are presented in the first issue of Roomservice Magazine #1 HUMAN BILLBOARDS, the first part of a series on real life transactions. Issue #1 will be launched alongside a presentation of extracts of the magazine.
The evening will start with an introduction by Constant Dullaart and end with a disco by Roberto Auser, Edgar Nevermoo and Ian Martin.
For additional information please contact De Zwarte Ruyter.

James Jankowiak @ De Zwarte Ruyter
Opening Friday 26 March, 18:30
De Zwarte Ruyter proudly presents, all the way from the south side of Chicago, an exhibition by James Jankowiak. Within the coming week Jankowiak will produce a site specific installation based on materials like masking tape, paper, mirrors and autonomous paintings. The completed piece will draw and cajole the visitor into an overall environment, made up out of striking color-fields and evolving lines, that surfaces on his paintings.
The work of James Jankowiak (1969) revolves around the idea of mutation through replication. Each work begins with a simple, meaningful mark that repeats and morphs into a resolved work. In comparison to Jankowiak’s work lies the science of paleontology: just as they carefully scratch away at stone to get to that prized life remnant Jankowiak replaces the stone taken away with the rendering of multiple lines, either painted or installed, leading to the manifestation of an exuberant, "living" form that reflects on the evolutionary process itself. In fact the color palette Jankowiak uses is always meant to catch the eye, it’s intentionally loud, the point is to encourage awe and excitement, give you the “wow” of discovery.
James Jankowiak will be working in De Zwarte Ruyter from the 22nd of March until the opening on Friday the 26th of March from 6:30 pm. The exhibition will last until the 4th of April 2010.
For additional information please contact De Zwarte Ruyter.
Kwartet, kunst & kennis @ De Zwarte Ruyter
Wednesday 24 March 2010, 20:00
De Zwarte Ruyter gradually invites you to an evening of family games hosted by Koen Taselaar and Marijke Appelman (Kwartet) and Wink van Kempen (Kunst & Kennis Quiz)
Kwartet is a Dutch card game using the simple premise of collecting a complete family/set of four cards (a so-called Kwartet) per given category. In this version of the game the fourteen families are formed by artworks grouped by their underlying subject matter or the formal principles used. The goal of the game is to obtain the most sets of four by keeping track of who is holding which card.
The Kunst & Kennis game is an experimental game based on a walk inside and around the Rijksmuseum and is to be played with six people.

4, 5 & 6 February 2010

The theme for this fifth edition is ‘Masterpiece’, with each auction we attempt to come up with a theme that explores a different aspect of why a darling may have been killed. In the case of the masterpiece the focus is on works that have a latent quality, but one that never made sense within the context they were created.
Most artists strive to make a perfect artwork, something that they think is the best artwork they have ever made or that ever has been made by any dead or living artist, an artwork they want to let the whole world know about, something that says it all, a milestone in their career, a-once-in-a-lifetime creation; ‘Masterpiece’!
These are the works that we have put out a call for... A theme that finally gives the artists a chance to exhume some of those works that lay in waiting, tucked away in the attic...
Rules & guidelines:
· Entrance is free
· Bidding is open to all
· Payments in cash only
